Beer Mail #26: Rise of the Sours

Sour Beers have become more and more common throughout BC. Not only are BC breweries trying their hand at this obscure European style, many sours are being brought into the province from around the world. This unique Beer Mail package contains six of our favourites in the store and range in style from a basic, citrusy/puckery kettle sour to a unique sour porter brewed with cherries and a touch of salt. These are great summer beers, loaded with tart fruit notes, low in alcohol and incredibly refreshing. In this special sour-focused Beer Mail, you’ll get 12 large-format bottles for just $124.5 + shipping.

And we have extended our offer of expedited shipping via Canada Post for only $25—anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.

All are large-format 650ml bottles (except where noted) and you’ll get two bottles of each beer. Sorry, no substitutions.

Please note: Beer Mail orders can only be accepted from BC addresses. Orders must be placed during our hours of operation (10 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week), per liquor control and licensing terms and conditions.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: Aug 15

Can’t really say there was a “theme” to the latest craft beer arrivals, though they arrived from all over the world: Belgium, BC, San Diego and even New York City. I guess that’s sort of a theme. Style-wise, they are a little bit of everything: IPA, fruity gose, coffee blonde, spiced porter and Trappist-style quadrupel.

Hoppy #IPADay 2017!

The India Pale Ale (aka IPA) continues to be the most popular craft beer style, so on this day every year we celebrate its continued greatness. The cool thing about the style is the way that it continues to evolve and develop into many sub-styles. A basic IPA is going to be aromatic and bold with fruit and spice (and sometimes herbal) notes on the palate.

Beer Mail #25: Brand New IPAs!(Sold-out)

Killer IPAs have become a BC mainstay! Our latest BEER MAIL package is a celebration of the many interesting ways Canadian brewers are crafting this favourite style. It represents many of the new trends in IPAs from Brett/wild IPAs (Howe Sound & Phillips) with their funky/fruity notes to “milkshake” IPAs (R&B) brewed with lactose for a smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, great fruit notes and low bitterness. There’s even an old-school IPA from Quebec (Le Castor) and a highly regarded Victoria Imperial IPA (Lighthouse) brewed with a different hop variety. If you’re a fan of IPAs, this BEER MAIL has nearly every style covered. You’ll get 12 large-format bottles for just $105.5 + shipping.

And we have extended our offer of expedited shipping via Canada Post for only $25—anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: July 6

Last week we had an unusual number of German-style gose beers, this week it was all about the brett-fermented wild ales. Lots of funky brews in stock now, especially the two rarities from Townsite—Bois Sauvage Wild Ale #1 and Bois Sauvage Assemblage #1—which were previously only available in the Powell River brewery’s tasting room.

The “theme” for the latest arrivals was oddly enough goses (a sour German beer brewed with coriander and a touch of salt)  and IPAs. Crazy, huh? We actually tasted four goses, but only currently have the three below in stock. Well, we also have Driftwood’s Cry Me a River.

Beer Mail #24: Wheat Beers – Some Strong, Some Sour(Sold-out)

We’re back to 650ml bombers for our latest BEER MAIL package, and this time we’ve put together a nice group of special wheat beers. On one side you get the strong German-style Weizenbocks from Steel + Oak, Moon Under Water and Driftwood and on the other, some tart and refreshing sours from Ravens, Parallel 49 and Dageraad. Wheat finds its way into many different kinds of beers, but we took two very different styles to illustrate what it can offer. In weizenbocks you get a creamier mouthfeel and thick head, while wheat can help add a bit of a citrus tang in sours. For this wheat-centric Beer Mail you’ll get 12 large-format bottles for just $104.5 + shipping.

And we have extended our offer of expedited shipping via Canada Post for only $25—anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.
