Craft Beer Tasting Notes: June 26

The “theme” for the latest arrivals was oddly enough goses (a sour German beer brewed with coriander and a touch of salt)  and IPAs. Crazy, huh? We actually tasted four goses, but only currently have the three below in stock. Well, we also have Driftwood’s Cry Me a River.

Beer Mail #24: Wheat Beers – Some Strong, Some Sour

We’re back to 650ml bombers for our latest BEER MAIL package, and this time we’ve put together a nice group of special wheat beers. On one side you get the strong German-style Weizenbocks from Steel + Oak, Moon Under Water and Driftwood and on the other, some tart and refreshing sours from Ravens, Parallel 49 and Dageraad. Wheat finds its way into many different kinds of beers, but we took two very different styles to illustrate what it can offer. In weizenbocks you get a creamier mouthfeel and thick head, while wheat can help add a bit of a citrus tang in sours. For this wheat-centric Beer Mail you’ll get 12 large-format bottles for just $104.5 + shipping.

And we have extended our offer of expedited shipping via Canada Post for only $25—anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.

All are large-format 650ml bottles (except where noted) and you’ll get two bottles of each beer. Sorry, no substitutions.

Please note: Beer Mail orders can only be accepted from BC addresses. Orders must be placed during our hours of operation (10 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week), per liquor control and licensing terms and conditions.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: June 23

It’s hot out and our fridges are loaded with COLD craft beer (and cider and wine). Not everything listed below is chilled, but plenty is. The new brews we’ve been receiving lately are perfectly suited for the sunny weather and soaring temperatures. One that’s especially good that’s new is the Spinnakers Raspberry Lager in 4pk tall cans. That + the beach = bliss.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: June 14

An interesting week for new releases. We’re always excited to get new cider from Faustino Cidery in the Okanagan and these two arrivals—Apple Plum and Apple Blueberry—are as exceptional as all of their lineup. Great flavour, wonderful balance and perfect carbonation—like a fine sparkling wine.

Sauce Hound May 2017: Reduced Prices On Dozens Of Items!

As Cook Street Village’s favourite mom and pop liquor store, we don’t have the budget for full-colour sale flyers or newspaper ads touting our latest sales. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have a lot of price reductions at any given time. We currently have some great product in every single category—craft beer, wine and spirits—at reduced prices (see below).

Well, this week is a wonderful mixed bag of styles! We’re excited to have more dry-hopped sours roll in from Powell and To Øl, which is a style—when done well—that’s a great, refreshing summer drink, with tons of flavour. Though it’s seasonally a bit off the mark, we’re also stoked to have our first beer (a wonderful, strong milk stout) from Kentucky brewery Against the Grain.

Beer Mail #23: Craft Beer Cans!(Sold-out)

Craft beer in cans is a growing trend and we decided to try something different for our latest BEER MAIL package. Instead of 12 650ml bombers, we’ve packed four different 4-pks of tall cans (473ml each) into this one. More and more limited run brews are released this way and two of the four included in this—the Yellow Dog collaborations—are hard-to-find releases. Additionally, the Steel Toad and Central City IPAs are regular releases, but not widely distributed. And, believe it or not, you’ll get nearly the same amount of beer as our 12 x 650ml packages (7.57L vs. 7.8L), at a fraction of the price. Plus, since cans are lighter, we can offer reduced shipping cost. In this special package you’ll get four tall can 4-pks for just $68 + shipping!

And since cans are lighter, you get expedited shipping via Canada Post for only $20—anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.

All 4-pks include 473ml cans. You get one (1) 4-pk of each beer listed below. No substitutions.

Please note: Beer Mail orders can only be accepted from BC addresses. Orders must be placed during our hours of operation (10 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week), per liquor control and licensing terms and conditions.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: May 29

Well, after a week with not a lot new arriving, this week was the opposite. Tons of stuff from BC, the U.S. and even Europe. Some really fun and tasty brews. We had a great time at the staff tasting last Friday going through these and picking out favourites and getting to know some of the really interesting new brews, such as the Fuggles & Warlock Saskatoon Berry Wheat Sour and the Mr.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: May 25

Not sure if we mentioned it last week, but there are a ton of hazy IPAs showing up in the shop. In the U.S., these are called New England IPAs and are characterized by their cloudy or hazy appearance, huge tropical fruit and dank cannabis aromatics (and flavours), soft mouthfeel and low bitterness.

Beer Mail #22: Old School & New School IPAs(Sold-out)

We’ve been having fun showing off our IPA selection in the last two BEER MAIL packages, so we decided to do one more with both modern and traditional takes on the style. And we have extended our offer of expedited shipping via Canada Post for only $25—anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.
