Craft Beer Tasting Notes: October 20

Just as we noted in last week’s tasting notes, the new fresh-hopped beers and pumpkin ales continue to pour in. Don’t wait on picking these up as we get limited quantities, they sell fast and once they are gone, they’re gone for good. Great new releases from Bridge, Russell, Cannery, Fernie, Longwood and much more!

Beer Mail #29: Fresh Hop Mania!

Celebrate the hop harvest with Fresh-Hopped Ales! For a brief period, some very special brews are released, beers that are meant to be consumed right away. These are called “fresh-hopped” or “wet-hopped” beers and they are brewed with hops that are freshly picked and immediately used in the brew kettle. But don’t worry, if you’re not a fan of bitter beers, these fresh hops don’t make beers extra bitter, they just add wonderful aromatics and flavours that can range from citrusy to foresty to grassy and herbal/minty. They can be brewed in many different styles from English-style bitters, pale ales and IPAs to German-style lagers. For this super-fresh Beer Mail you get two large-format bottles (650ml) of each these six brews for $102.5 + shipping.

We offer a flat shipping charge of just $25 for FedEx delivery anywhere in BC!

Remember, this box will only be available for two weeks, or until it’s sold out.

All are large-format 650ml bottles (except where noted) and you’ll get two bottles of each beer. Sorry, no substitutions.

Please note: Beer Mail orders can only be accepted from BC addresses. Orders must be placed during our hours of operation (10 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week), per liquor control and licensing terms and conditions.

Beer Mail #28: Tripel Play!(Sold-out)

OK, we’ll admit it, we went BIG with this Beer Mail. You might say three times as big—at least style-wise—because we are focusing in on Belgian-style Abbey Tripels. These are all high-alcohol beers (above 8%) and if you’re not familiar with the style, they are deceptively easy to drink. Pale in colour and loaded with bright fruity esters (think apples and pears), with a hint of spice, you might mistake these for an easy-drinking beer half the size. We love Belgian-style tripels and think you will, too (if you don’t already)! These big, tasty brews are perfect sippers for the cooler months and can be aged for years, if you choose. For this tripel threat Beer Mail you get two large-format bottles (650ml) of each these six brews for $152 + shipping.

Craft Beer Tasting Notes: Sept 25

We skipped a couple of weekly staff tastings due to the Great Canadian Beer Fest and the madness of Rifflandia. But we’re back with a TONNE of new stuff! Wow! The pumpkin beers have arrived and the fresh-hopped brews are starting to roll in as well. Look for more of those to show up over the next two weeks. Lots of new stuff in cans. That seems to be the trend, even for seasonals.

Crush: A Fine Wine Affair, Sunday, October 22

Long before we opened Cook St. Liquor in the Cook Street Village we we had a VQA Wine Store that specialized in BC wine. Wine has always been a passion for us, so we are happy to be helping support Crush: A Fine Wine Affair, a benefit for the Belfry Theatre that will be held at the Inn at Laurel Point Sunday, October 22, 5-8pm.
