Craft Beer Tasting Notes: April 19

We regularly post tasting notes from our Friday Staff Tasting, providing you with our take on all the latest craft beer arrivals. We didn’t receive the same barrage of BC beers as in previous weeks, but some special brews definitely arrived, such as Driftwood’s Twenty Pounder Double IPA. If you like big, boozy DIPA’s loaded with fruity, resinous Mosaic hops, this is the beer for you! It’s a beast. Though this isn’t a brand new item, we cracked open one of the Persephone Single Hop Series 2016 4-pk boxes and took notes on all four pale ales included in that. All are great, and the individual hop varieties shine through nicely.

Also, tickets are going fast for our next Extreme Beer With the Beast craft beer tasting event. If you haven’t been to one of these before, they are truly unique. The tasting is led by local craft beer writer Adem Tepedelen, author of the Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers. We select 10 extreme beers—from BC and around the world—and we pair them in flights of two with meaty morsels from the Whole Beast Artisan Salumeria. For the final flight, we choose two big beers and pair them with a sweet treat from Yonni’s Doughnuts for a little “dessert.” Tickets are only $30 and we still have a couple available through the store, and more available online here.
