Craft Beer Tasting Notes: Aug 15

Can’t really say there was a “theme” to the latest craft beer arrivals, though they arrived from all over the world: Belgium, BC, San Diego and even New York City. I guess that’s sort of a theme. Style-wise, they are a little bit of everything: IPA, fruity gose, coffee blonde, spiced porter and Trappist-style quadrupel. And all are 100% delicious!

And don’t forget, we still have reduced prices on many items throughout the store. These price reductions will last through August.

Fernie Old Stumpy Pine IPA 6.7% 650ml (Fernie, BC)
Pours an orange-yellow colour. Old school IPA aromas of foresty pine, spice and grapefruit notes on the nose. Sweet pine and grapefruit peel notes on the palate with sweetness up front and a sharp bitter finish.

Modern Times Fruitlands Guava Passion Fruit Gose 4.8% 473ml (San Diego, CA)
Pours a cloudy orange-yellow colour. Floral notes of exotic guava and passion fruit on the nose. Juicy tart guava and passion fruit notes with a hint of salt and a touch of acidity.

Steel + Oak Kaffee Coffee Blonde 5% 650ml (New Westminster, BC)
Pours a deep sunshine yellow colour. Robust nutty coffee notes on the nose. Similar on the palate with delicious earthy coffee notes backed by a lightly sweet malty backbone. Great coffee flavour, very drinkable.

Two Roads/Evil Twin Pachamama Porter 6.5% 473ml can (NYC)
Pours a black coffee colour. Aromas of chocolate and dark dried fruit on the nose. Sweet and raisiny with chocolate notes and a hint of spicy heat on the rich finish. Decadent.

Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel 11% 750ml (Belgium)
Pours a dark chestnut brown colour. Vinuous, boozy dark fruit notes on the nose. Big carbonation. Robust, sweet dark fruit notes, hint of baking spice and nuts. Boozy and delicious.
