Craft Beer Tasting Notes: May 8

We’ve seen a big shift in the kinds of beers that are starting to arrive in the store. We’re getting a lot of tasty fruity and lighter brews. Some nice sours are also part of the mix. These are brews and ciders that are perfect for sunny days down at the beach or on the patio.

Schofferhofer Grapefruit Radler 2.5% 4pk (Germany)
Pours a hazy orange-yellow colour. Candied grapefruit on the nose. Sweet grapefruit notes on the palate with simple grainy/yeasty beer notes. Bit of grapefruit bitterness and tartness on the finish.

Merridale Jalisco Apple Lime Cidre 6% 1L (Mill Bay)
Pours hazy pale lemon yellow colour. Notes of sweet apple and a hint of lime on the nose. Tastes like a fresh squeeze of lime in a hard cider. Refreshing tart/sweet balance. Tasty!

Category 12 Dry Hopped Sour 5% 650ml (Saanich)
Pours a hazy pale white-yellow colour. Floral, grassy and citrusy on the nose. Notes of tart green apple and grippy lemon tea on the palate. Light & dry, not too sour.

Yellow Dog Domesticated Sour Wild IPA 6.7% 4pk (Port Moody, BC)
Pours a hazy orange-yellow colour. Lush and fruity tropical fruit notes on the nose. Big grapefruit peel notes on the palate, with hints of hop spice and lemony tartness on the finish.

Howe Sound Hazy Daze North East IPA 6% 650ml (Squamish, BC)
Pours a rich orange-yellow colour. Big tropical fruit notes of pineapple, guava and passion fruit on the nose. Hop notes pineapple, pine and spice on the palate with a pleasant earthy bitterness.

Phillips Hoperation Tripel Cross Belgian IPA 7.3% 650ml (Victoria)
Pours a rich golden yellow colour. Notes of orchard fruit, vanilla and funk on the nose. Notes of bubblegum, pepper, earthy bitterness and fruit on the palate.

Crazy Uncle Hard Cream Soda 5% 473ml (BC)
Pours a clear yellow-brown colour. Big vanilla and cotton candy notes on the nose. Sweet with notes of vanilla and Oreo cookie filling. on the palate.
