Craft Beer Tasting Notes: Oct. 1

As you can see below, the first fresh-hopped/wet-hopped brews have arrived, including the industry standard Driftwood Sartori Harvest Wet-Hopped IPA. Brewers are doing some interesting things this year with fresh hops, including a wild ale (C12), a pale ale with grape must (Phillips) and even a blonde IPA (R & B).

These, along with the pumpkin ales, are some of the most popular seasonal releases we’re seeing now, but there are still some great IPAs, lagers and sours rolling in, as well. Don’t forget that you can get 5% off any time you snap together 4 or more tall cans! 

Field House Dutch Sour Wit 6% 650ml (Abbotsford, BC)
Pours a cloudy pale orange colour. Sweet wheat and orange on the nose, deliciously sour citrus notes, medium bodied and a dry, tart finish
Ravens Morrigan Stone Fruit Sour 6% 650ml (Abbotsford, BC)
Pours a cloudy orange colour. Faint sour plum and peach notes on the nose. Mildly sour with good tart stone fruit notes and a hint of bitterness on the finish. Well balanced.

Steel & Oak Rye Lager 4.5% 650ml (New Westminster, BC)
Pours a hazy orange-amber colour. Rich grainy malt notes the nose, with hints of rye bread. A hearty, grainy, spicy lager with plenty of body and complexity for a session beer.

Parallel 49 Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter 6.5% 650ml (Vancouver)
Pours a chocolate brownie colour. Subtle notes of chocolate and spice on the nose. The pumpkin part of this is subtle, if not non-existent. On the palate this tastes like a well-made porter with hints of vanilla.

Steel & Oak Chazwazza DIPA 8.1% 473ml (New Westminster, BC)
Pours a cloudy pale orange-yellow colour. Melon, spice and tropical fruit notes on the nose. Sweet, fruity, juicy.
Steel & Oak x Wander Adjacent Rustic Lager 5.4% 473ml (BC/WA)
Pours an orange-yellow colour. Notes of honeyed malt and light fruit on the nose. Classic clean lager notes of round malt, hint of fruit and a crisp, dry finish. Clean and refreshing.
Twin Sails Tinfoil Hats Pale Ale 5.2% 473ml (Port Moody, BC)
Pours a hazy pale yellow-orange colour. Floral tropical fruit and wet grain notes on the nose. Dry and light with tropical and grainy malt notes. Easy drinking.

Category 12 Fresh Hopped Wild Pale Ale 5% 473ml (Saanich)
Pours a hazy pale yellow colour. Earthy and and spicy with a hint of fruit on nose. Some fruit notes with earthy, spicy hop notes. Dry and refreshing.

Phillips First Crush Wet Hopped Pale Ale with Grape Must 4.7% 473ml (Victoria)
Pours a clear yellow colour. Grape juice and cannabis notes on the nose. Juicy, malty and spicy on the palate with hint of grape and a bitter finish.

R & B So Fresh & So Green, Green Fresh Hopped Blonde IPA 6.4% 650ml (Vancouver)
Pours a rich, clear golden yellow colour. Big juicy fruit and spice notes on the nose. Sweet, earthy, spicy and herbal hop notes on the palate. Well-balanced and vibrant.

Driftwood Sartori Harvest Wet Hopped IPA 7% 650ml (Victoria)
Pours an orange-yellow colour. Bright clean notes of pine, melon, herbs and juicy citrus on the nose. Sweet notes of melon, citrus and pine on the palate.

Parallel 49 Brut IPA 7.1% 750ml (Vancouver)
Pours a subdued golden yellow colour. Funk, mint and spice notes on the nose. Dry on the palate with fine carbonation and notes of yeast funk, spice, herbal mint.

Boombox x Kilter The Legend of Citra DIPA 8% 473ml (BC/MB)
Pours a golden yellow colour. Citrus, funk, resin and spice notes on the nose. Sweet on the palate with mega citrus notes, a bit boozy and low bitterness.
