Craft Beer Tasting Notes: October 20

Just as we noted in last week’s tasting notes, the new fresh-hopped beers and pumpkin ales continue to pour in. Don’t wait on picking these up as we get limited quantities, they sell fast and once they are gone, they’re gone for good. Townsite Blackberry Wheat Sour 5.5% 650ml (Powell River, BC)
Pours a ruby rose colour. Notes of sweet berries, rustic earthiness and sweet malt on the nose. Acidic notes of malt vinegar, tart berries and grapes on the palate. Slighty grainy malt sweetness. Long, sour finish.

Four Winds Fortunello 8.3% 750ml (Delta, BC)
Pours a copper orange colour. Floral/herbal/citrus potpourri and orange marmalade notes on the nose. Herbaceous and spicy with big bitter orange and black pepper notes.

Dageraad Oscar Pale Ale 5% 650ml (Burnaby, BC)
Pours a golden yellow colour. Subtle spice and grainy malt notes on the nose. Light-bodied, with spice and fruit notes and a pleasant hoppy bite.
Dageraad Louise Blonde Ale 6.5% 650ml (Burnaby, BC)
Pours a pale golden yellow colour. Big orchard and stone fruit notes on the nose.Creamy, robust carbonation with big fruit and spice notes and a bitter finish.

Cannery Darkling Oatmeal Stout 5.5% 650ml (Penticton, BC)
Pours a dark black-brown colour. Creamy chocolate and espresso notes on the nose. Dry on the palate with notes of chocolate, cocoa, smoke and black coffee.

Beau’s Three Knocks Sticke Alt 7% 650ml (Ontario)
Pours a mahogany orange-brown colour. Creamy malt, caramel and lactose notes on the nose. Dry with a bit of tartness and big creamy malt notes. Rich and nutty.

Beau’s Tom Green Summer Stout 5% 600ml (Ontario)
Pours a rich golden yellow colour. Subtle sweet lactose and grainy notes on the nose. Light, creamy and malty on the palate with subtle notes of coffee and chocolate.

Beau’s Wag the Wolf Hopfenweisse 6.8%% 600ml (Ontario)
Pours a hazy orange-yellow colour. Pineapple, banana and spice on the nose. Sweet on the palate with notes of pineapple juice, clove spice and banana.

Fernie Fresh Hop Pale Ale 6% 650ml (Fernie, BC)
Pours a golden yellow colour. Citrus and grainy malt notes on the nose. Citrus fruit, grainy malt and spicy hop notes on the palate.

St-Ambroise IPA 6.2% 473ml (Quebec)
Pours a copper orange colour. Aromas of bright fruit, caramel malt and vanilla on the nose. Fruity notes of juicy citrus and hop spice on the palate with a bitter finish.

Parkside Galaxy SMASH IPA 6.8% 473ml (Port Moody, BC)
Pours a hazy yellow colour. Aromatic creamy pineapple and orange citrus notes on the nose. On the palate notes of juicy citrus, tropical fruit and pineapple and a bitter finish.

Breakside What Rough Beast NE-style iPA 6.8% 650ml (Portland, OR)
Pours a cloudy orange colour. Huge Mosaic hop aromas of tropical fruit, white wine and onion. Sweet and mega fruity on the palate with notes of tropical fruit, sweet berries and spice.

Bridge Side Cut Northeast IPA 7.3% 473ml (N. Vancouver)
Pours a hazy orange colour. Aromas of creamy candy and orange marshmallow. Sweet, with big citrus and berry notes, with creamy mouthfeel and good carbonation.

Bridge Fresh Hop Hazy Pale Ale 5.6% 650ml (N. Vancouver)
Pours a hazy yellow colour. Bright citrus and pineapple notes on the nose. Sweet, vague fruit notes, low bitterness and smooth.

Howe Sound Father John’s Winter Ale 5.5% 1L (Squamish)
Pours a rich chestnut colour. Notes of cinnamon and and ginger on the nose. Light-bodied with notes of ginger snap, cinnamon and a bit of caramel malt.

Howe Sound Smoked Imperial Pumpkin Ale 8% 650ml (Squamish, BC)
Pours a chestnut orange colour. Smells like pumpkin pie by the campfire—just a hint of smoke. Sweet and boozy with oodles of cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, with a pleasant smokiness in the background.

Russell Harvest Pumpkin Ale 5.5% 650 ml (Vancouver)
Pours a chestnut orange-brown colour. Big baking spice with cinnamon and malt notes on the nose. Dry on the palate with cinnamon and baking spice notes. Light bodied.

Longwood Full Patch Pumpkin Ale 9% 650ml (Nanaimo, BC)
Loads of baking spice on the nose, hints of iodine and subtle citrus spice notes. Dense malty notes on the palate, with sweet pumpkin spice and a smack of booze. Sweeter finish with a light bitterness.
Cannery Knucklehead Pumpkin Ale 5% 650ml (Penticton, BC)
Pours a chestnut orange-brown colour. Notes of citrus, brown sugar and spice on the nose. Malty with notes of brown sugar, light spice and a hint of fruit.
