New releases were slim around Labour Day weekend but we expect them to pick up after the upcoming Great Canadian Beer Festival this Friday and Saturday (tickets for GCBF are still available, BTW). Even though not a lot of new stuff arrived, it was all product we’re excited about. Here’s what’s new.
Sea Cider Perry 8% 750ml (Saanich)
Dry pear and quince, lightly floral aromas. Crunchy, bone dry pear flavour with a crisp refreshing finish.
Doan’s Crystal Weiss 5% 4pk (Vancouver)
Heavy aromas of honey, wild flowers and sweet wheat and melon. Similar on the palate, with clean, light tropical fruit flavours and a super smooth, dry finish. Exceptional wheat beer.
Category 12 Barrel Holder Belgian Golden Strong Ale 10.6% 650ml (Saanich, BC)
This big brew was aged in red wine oak barrels for added fruitiness. On the nose you get fresh pineapple juice, candied tropical fruit, barrel spice and vanilla bean aromas. There are rich caramel, tropical fruit, vanilla and pineapple notes on the palate. It’s boozy & sweet with a tannic finish.
Dageraad Blonde IPA 7.5% 650ml (Burnaby, BC)
Exotic pear and apple, citrus fruit, spicy Belgian yeast aromas. Similar on the palate with lemony floral notes, bright effervescence and a really dry and bitter finish.
Powell Ode to Wallflower 6.2% 650ml (Vancouver)
Pours a copper orange colour. Notes of juicy citrus, bergamot and bubblegum notes on the nose. Aromatic botanical notes of juniper and citrus on the palate with a hint of booze.
Driftwood Raised by Wolves Wild IPA 7% 650ml (Victoria)
Tropical fruit aromas of pineapple, mango with some light funk. Palate is complex with mango, pineapple, honey dew and a funky, dry finish. Really well balanced and delicious.
