EARTH DAY, APRIL 22ND

Welcome to our 2021 Earth Day Feature Wine Mail package, Campbell Kind Wine Project.

Campbell Kind Wines are the world’s first international range of sustainable Carbon-Zero wines.

Hand-picked, sustainable and artisanal wines made by families in the world’s most famous wine regions. Steven Campbell, environmentalist and sommelier, has selected wines for Canadians for over four decades. He has hand-picked some of the world’s leading winemakers to craft delicious, affordable wines that over-deliver while having the additional benefit of being Carbon-Neutral – great quality, great product, plus environmentally responsible.

Steven holds an Honourary Doctorate of Laws (2019) from York University for environmental stewardship.

His passion for the environmental studies & conservation led to partnership with TreeCanada & CarbonZero where he helped plant over 90,000 trees in Canada.

THE WINES:

British Columbia: 2019 Pinot Blanc – Sperling Vineyards, 10.7%

Sperling Vineyards is certified organic on their heritage family vineyard in East Kelowna. They employ regenerative agriculture practices “keeping it green” while sequestering carbon. Due to no cover-crops, and low to no tillage, their farming and winemaking capture more CO2 from the atmosphere than they emit. Transportation is minimized by selling most of their production locally.

This is a 95% Pinot Blanc, 5% Riesling, hand-harvested and partially skin-fermented with wild yeast for 2-3 days.

The result is an incredibly light and complex white wine with bright, juicy stonefruit notes and a refreshingly dry finish.

New Zealand: 2018 Sauvignon Blanc – Steve Smith, 13%

Made in the heart of Marlborough on stony soils crafted by one of New Zealand’s most legendary wine makers, Steve Smith, a Master of Wine and a University Chancellor.

A classic NZ Sauvignon Blanc coming from some of the oldest vines in the region. Highly aromatic with ripe, lingering fruit flavours of gooseberry and grapefruit with intense minerality and crisp acidity.

Italy: 2017 IGT Rosso – Speri Family, 14%

The Speri Family are seventh generation winemakers that use only native varieties and only their own grapes, vineyards and wines. The classic grapes of Valpolicella organically produced in a fresh, appealing style in the heart of the region. The fifth generation of the Speri family, out of their love and respect for the land, decided to become the first organic winery in all of the Valpolicella Classico.

This IGT Rosso is a fresh, young and lively blend with loads of black & red fruit notes. Super easy, great quality organic Italian red.

California: 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon – Ironstone Vineyards, 13.5%

The Kautz Family started the famous Ironstone Vineyards in California’s Sierra Foothills, but their primary business has always been grape-growing, eventually becoming the largest grape-growing family in California, all done organically & sustainably, before there were such official terms.

This classic California Cab is rich, complex and super approachable. Dark cherry, toasted oak aromas with savoury black currant, raspberry and dark cherry flavours. Big, jammy profile with a smooth, velvety palate of dark fruit, vanilla & baking spice.

South Africa: 2018 Syrah – Bruce Jack, 14.5%

Bruce Jack Wines is a global wine business that values value at every price point. “We are obsessed with doing the right thing for our wines, our vineyards, and our customers. We are an independent, family-owned and controlled amalgamation of exciting brands which celebrate authenticity and provenance. We are different in the way that we source our grapes, communicate about our wine, relate to our customers and distribute around the world.”

The wine opens with raspberry, complex spice and ripe plum aromas. The palate is full & rich with dark chocolate, Black Forest fruit and smooth tannins.

Australia: 2014 Shiraz – Andrew Mitchell, 13%

“Our dry-grown vineyards ensure responsible water conservation while the removal of all artificial herbicides and pesticides ten years ago has encouraged biodiversity across the board. This resulted in rich soils and vineyards full of life. We are dedicated to preserving the natural characteristics of the fruit produced from these vines, promoting the rich flavours and a vibrant energy that is present throughout the entire Mitchell Wines portfolio.”

This is a classic Aussie Shiraz with smooth, balanced profile with forward spicy aromas, lush fruit flavours and a dry, peppery finish. Perfect for the BBQ.
