For this edition of our Wine Mail package we have decided to bring you a mix of French and Italian values to satisfy any occasion!
On the French side we have highlighted one of our favourite producers, the Famille Perrin. The Perrin’s are the proprietors of Chateau Beaucastel, one of the most famous estates in France’s first ever appelation, Chateauneuf Du Pape. While these wines can cost hundreds of dollars Perrin makes wines to suit every budget, and this package has 3 such wines.
As for the Italians, there are highlights from northern Italy to further south, beginning with a red blend from Veneto that drinks like a light Amarone, and being rounded out by a crowd pleasing red and white from further south.
Tasting notes for the wines are as follows:
Perrin, Les Chaberts 2020 – Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah – 13.5% (Rhone Valley, FRA)
Heavier – This wine is expressive with notes of red fruit & cinnamon. Its fresh, smooth & reveals aromas of strawberries & very supple tannins.
Perrin, Ventoux Rose 2020 – Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah – 13% (Rhone Valley, FRA)
Aromas of red currants in jelly & cherry sorbet. Smooth & fruity on the palate, full of freshness & shows nice balance.
Perrin, Luberon Blanc 2020 – Bourbolenc, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Roussane – 13% (Rhone Valley, FRA)
Unoaked -This wine reveals a delicate nose with aromas of peaches and limes. Round and fruity, the palate is well balanced, with a nice finish on citrus notes.
Giorgio & Gianni, Negroamaro 2020 – 13% (Italy)
Heavier – Loads of ripe fruit with leather & spice notes, lots of richness on the plate but its all fruit so bring on the pizza & pasta!
Baccolo, Rosso 2019 – Merlot, Corvina – 13.5% (Veneto, ITA)
Heavier – Juicy rich style with black cherry and leather on the nose, with more spice developing on the palate and finish.
Colle Corviano, Trebbiano D’Abruzzo 2020 – 12% (Abruzzo, ITA)
Unoaked – Intense bouquet of ripe apples and peaches. refreshing ripe apple and peach notes end with a gentle acidity.
