Red:
Famille Perrin – From a leading wine producer and negociant in the Southern Rhone Valley. They own Chateau de Beaucastel, the famed Chateauneuf-du-Pape producer. This Les Chaberts red blend from Ventoux is their just-above-entry-level product that we load up on when available. It’s a no brainer wine for hosting, pairing with dinner or cooking with. Medium-to-full bodied with fresh red & black fruit notes, and extremely versatile.
Real Agrado – We hoard this wicked-value Spanish red from Liberty Imports in Vancouver. What makes this Rioja unique, is that it is Garnacha forward. Most Rioja leans towards Tempranillo aged in American oak for that barrel spice character. This wine is a much higher percentage of Garnacha for a juicy pop, blended with Tempranillo and a dash of white Viura for added freshness. It’s really a steal for the price.
Fantini – With their wide range of wines from regions throughout Italy, Fantini is one of those most reliable, value producers in our store. They were named Best Italian Producer by famed Italian wine writer, Luca Maroni, for ’16, ’17, ’19 & 2020. This Montepulciano is full bodied with blackberry, cherry & plum aromas, peppery, roasted notes, bright flavours & chewy tannins.
White:
Santa Maria – Got olives? This is a Chardonnay/Trebbiano blend from Northeast Italy, that offers bright, intense flavours of white flowers, apricot and nutty, bread crust notes. Ripe fruit and aromatic herbs with notes of honey on the palate. This is fermented in stainless steel so there’s no oak character imparted – it’s all pure, expressive fruit. A great pasta-pairing white!
Legado Muñoz – We’ve stocked this producer for many years, relying on their easy drinking value wines from Northeast Spain. Expect a riper, medium bodied white wine with expressive citrus character. This will be a *little* less dry, which can be nice to drink on its own or compliment seafood dishes.
Riverlore – While the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc category gets dominated by giants like Kim Crawford, Stoneleigh, Oyster Bay, etc… this Marlborough product has a little more juice, pop & zip to it. Still that clean, grassy character that you enjoy out of a New Zealand Sauv Blanc, but you get just that little extra punch of pure fruit flavour for the same price.
