Wine Mail #3: Special Wines For New Year’s Eve

Our latest Wine Mail offering—just in time for New Year’s celebrations—has some higher priced wines that are a little more unique than the previous two Value Wines offerings we started the program with. (We’d also be happy to put together a custom Wine Mail from our Vault selection, if you’re interested. Just call us and request it!)

For those who are unfamiliar with our Wine Mail program, we should mention that our approach to the wines we carry is similar to our craft beer and spirits program: we handpick everything that is in the store. There is a sea of products out there, and we navigate through it looking for tasty value wines from smaller producers. Perceived value can be at any price point, so we categorize our wine selection into three distinct groups: Value Wines $20 and Under, Good Examples of Region or Variety between $20 and $50, and Wines of Stature $50+ (which we have stashed in our Wine Vault, where our staff can personally show you).

So whether you want to spend $12 or $1200 on a bottle, our store offers many examples of different wines in the carefully curated groups / categories mentioned above.

For Wine Mail #3 we’re focusing on Good Examples of Region or Variety between $20 and $50, where you’ll find some tasty treats without breaking the bank. Browse the descriptions below and then head to the bottom of this post for ordering details.

THE WINES
Blue Grouse Paula Brut, Cowichan Station BC $39

Pretty citrus and tree fruit aromas with a juicy long palate. This wine is a great example of the quality that can be produced on Vancouver Island. The investment the owners have made in the property is impressive, get up there and visit.

Masseria Li Veli 2017 Fiano, Puglia Italy $28
Pear, citrus and soft floral aromas that are bright and juicy with hints of lemon and mineral. Old-school family making distinct wines.

Champalou 2017 Vouvray Sec, Loire Valley, France $38
Toasty, salty, honey, hay and marmalade characteristics with a big juicy palate. Chenin Blanc like it was meant to be produced. Classic!

Louis Latour 2014 Domaine Valmossine Pinot Noir, Provence, France $32
Intense red currant and cherry aromas with a bit of barnyard funk, silky rich texture and a bright flavourful finish. Enjoy with duck and mushrooms!

Finca Nueva 2015 Tempranillo, Rioja, Spain $29
Meaty, BBQ rub, cedar and dusty earth notes highlight the tart cranberry, ripe black cherry and currant aromas. Lots of texture and ripe fruit flavours with a firm finish. This is New World Rioja and it is delicious.

d’Arenberg 2015 Love Grass Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia $33
Dense and concentrated with blackberry, plum and dried herb aromas that are full bodied and juicy on the palate, with a long supple finish. Great vintage from a pioneering South Australia family.
